With pool season approaching, so too are a number of fresh and fascinating trends. This year the pool customisation options are taken to new heights of style and intelligence. Check out five design trends that are currently catching waves;
Whilst infinity edge pools remain popular, the knife-edge design offers an accessible upgrade. Sharing the same negative drop-off characteristics as its predecessor, the design catches the eye with the same majestic beauty. However, the knife-edge does not require an overhanging ledge. Within the pools interior is a diagonal slot that gives the appearance of water full to the brim flowing over onto the surround deck, without actually spilling over at all. The infinity edge pool can offer quite a spectacle with the right background, but the knife edge can add dramatic style to pretty much any flat surface area.
Baja Shelves/Tanning Ledges
This simple design feature can transform your pool into a back yard spa resort. These ‘shelves’ are typically with less than 12” of water, allowing you to simmer in the sun and soak up a tan. Combined with in-pool furniture, of which there is an impressive range, your poolside can become quite the lounging area. Increasingly they are being installed with built-in umbrellas to offer a cool spot in the shade.
A zero entry design really changes the dynamic of the pool, bringing the beach to your back yard. Whilst it can be aesthetically pleasing, it accommodates for the entire family; children can comfortably learn to swim, whilst elderly or disabled members of the family can have direct access to the pool. Throw in some sand and some tropical plants and you’ve got yourself your very own private beach climate.
Fire features are making a flare this year, and it’s easy to see why with the instant chic quality that it adds to the pool area. Running on natural gas or propane, the fire bowl can be controlled remotely. Not only does it add depth to the atmosphere, but it can also function as a centerpiece, bringing family and guests together around the fire to warm up after a dip.
360 Degree Infinity Pool
Adding panache to backyards this year is the 360 degree infinity pool. It’s taking the infinity concept to a whole new level. The design includes an overflow edge around the whole parameter. Such a design creates a mirror-like effect that reflects the scenery, making the pool quite a stunning feature in and of itself.
